Welcome to Udderly Crazy Dairy Goats
Like many family herds we started out in 4-H in 1990 with 2 Nubians, one doe and one wether. From then on we were hooked, and in 1993 we attended our first open class show.
Over the next few years we began to focus mainly on breeding Oberhaslis and Recorded Grades.
The Year 1995 brought the ADGA National Show in Salem Oregon, too close
not to attend, even with our immature stock. We returned home excited and
inspired as most of our does placed in the top ten and our Oberhasli foundation
doe, Angel, placed 1st w/1st udder as a 4 year old. What an exciting experience for
us it. We decided at that time that we would focus our breeding plans
creating a nationally competitive herd, increasing milk production and most
important of all, maintaining breed standards as well as breeding type the type of does we
enjoy looking at daily.
Since 1995 we have attended the ’96, ’98, ’99, ’02, ’03 National shows,
with Nicole and Trevor winning showmanship classes in 1999. Trevor returned to win the showmanship class again in’01.
Out of the six national shows we have attended, the ’02 and ’03 Nationals have been our highlight.
The 2002 nationals were VERY inspiring for us, with all the girls placing very well.
Needless to say that national show will be unforgettable for us.
In 2003, our herd was devastated by the sudden loss of three very important does, Angel, Flurry and Classic. That that spring we realized that two of our major show string animals would not freshen, we were contemplating to not even attending the 2003 National show due to the traveling distance and the reduction in our show string.
We decided that we could not allow that stop us from attending. We are glad that we made that decision. At the 2003 National Show the Oberhaslis again did wonderfully even without our three major does.
At the farm we follow a very strict CAEV prevention program with testing through WADDL/WSU every year, our herd has been CAEV negative for the past 10 years. We are compliant to National Scrapies prevention program. We are currently on an every other year program for Linear Appraisal and will be appraised again this year. We will be participating in the DHIR Standard Testing in place of the One Day milk test that we have participated in for many years.
